A homemade mix with the tunes that were in my crate for the BSS winter solstice party - kind of an extended version of my set 😊

Absolutely loving Asa Tate tunes at the moment (aka Tech Support), a few tracks on this one & he's popped up in the last several mixtapes - great stuff. 

Quality new-ish tunes on Phonica (Luca Lozano), Permanent Vacation (Pacific Coliseum & Johannes Albert) & new label Strange Cargo (Headhunters - the whole EP is really good, looking forward to the next one out soon).

Some classics that have felt right recently (Stereo MC's, Mylo & Deep Dish). Dub vibes from Akio Nagase, Ferg & Command D & plenty more goodness besides.

On this day… 40 years ago

19th of July 1986. Festival of the Tenth Summer, the 10th Event. Greater Manchester Exhibition Centre

New Order / The Smiths / The Fall / A Certain Ratio / Cabaret Voltaire & more

This was a festival organised by Factory Records. 10 events to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Sex Pistols playing in Manchester.

It was absolutely huge for me - first time I went to Manchester, having been obsessed with Factory & the Manchester scene generally for a few years, & it was so exciting.

So many good bands - ACR on early in the day, New Order with Mac from the Bunnymen for guest vocals on Ceremony, The Smiths with Morrissey waving a ‘The Queen Is Dead’ sign. Good times :)

On This Day - 25th of June 1988

On this day... 38 years ago

25th of June 1988. A Certain Ratio live at the Astoria, London 

As mentioned on a previous post, I love ACR, one of my favourite bands. The Astoria was a wicked venue, & ACR are always excellent live, good times 🔈 

This would also have been, I think, maybe the 4th night of the Trip - Nicky Holloway’s famous acid house party. Memory is a bit hazy, but I think we got kicked out of the Astoria pretty swiftly after ACR finished, because they needed to get ready for 100’s of incoming acid house lunatics 😆

Foolishly we didn’t stay, but I do have vague memories of heaps of people waiting to get in & a buzz in the air. Instead we jumped in @vinyl.fanclub car & sped down to Brighton to go to another acid night at the Escape. It’s very possible I’ve misremembered this, it was a long time ago, but I think this was all on the same night 😆

What a band! 

Was so very into them when we went to this gig, & still love & often listen to them now - just brilliant (see also post Spacemen work as Spectrum / Sonic Boom / Spiritualized).

Reaching Chrome Roots 50 seems like some kind of achievement (it's taken 5 years to get here)

To celebrate, I wanted to do a long, genre-hopping mix, a bunch of current favourites old & new. It covers a lot of ground but I love this kind of ebb & flow - for heads & hips, for feet & floating :)
